No sound,cant figure out whats wrong

Hi,

I have an ati Radeon hd 4850. I was told the drivers for the 4800 series of the radeon cards included my card. Im running sound through the HDMI port on the 4850 video, since that is what I need to do to get sound with my TV setup. Anytime I run something with sound, the sound toolbars act as they normaly do, showing the rising and lowering bars with the sound its supposed to be playing through then speakers on my TV like it used to do just fine. If I try to play music, windows media tells me something is wrong and it cannot play the files. When I click for more information, it tells me several reasons why it might not be working, one of them being that the audio drivers are not working properly. Ive fallowed directions to check the fdrivers, and the computer searched and told me the latest drivers were installed and that everything was working properly, but still no sound plays. Ive tried rolling back to previous drivers, still no sound. The catalyst control center and drivers for the 4850 are "up to date" as well. I just cant figure out whats wrong and how to fix the sound?

Please help.
