Cannot reach Admin page

Hi,

It's my first time giving this system a try. I have tried installing and seem to have run into similar issues to others on this forum but not sure on the fix as I'm not technical with website things at all :|

I have installed and got the 'Internal 500' error.
I located the .httaccess file and found as suggested elsewhere to add a '#' at : php_flag register_globals off.

This appears to bring up the page but now I find I can't reach the admin page nor is any other the front pages links working correctly. I am wondering if this has something to do with my website is an add on domain in the subfolder?
